For nearly 50 years, The St. Vrain and Left Hand Water Conservancy District has successfully protected our water for communities in Boulder, Weld and Larimer Counties, from the mountains to the plains including residents in Lyons, Longmont, Mead and Firestone and surrounding land areas draining into both St. Vrain and Left Hand Creeks.

In its fifty years of operations, The St. Vrain and Left Hand Water Conservancy District has never once asked voters for additional funds. Yet in that time, demands on our water have skyrocketed. The St. Vrain and Left Hand Water Conservancy District has a 5-Point Water Action Plan that it can put into place with proper resources that will safeguard and conserve the quality of our drinking water, protect forests that are critical to water supplies, and maintain healthy rivers and creeks.

Nothing is more important than having clean reliable water to drink. The population the St. Vrain and Left Hand Water Conservancy District serves is growing every day. The District needs to be able to plan ahead to protect and conserve our sources of water, promote water conservation, and ensure water quality for our area. The St. Vrain and Left Hand Water Conservancy District’s 5-Point Action Plan does just that. Question 7A ensures sufficient resources to ensure this plan is put into action so the District can protect healthy rivers and water supplies for the local communities for generations to come. This includes:
Protecting water quality and drinking water sources:
7A will provide funds to reduce the risk from drought, fires, and floods that can harm water quality and help ensure clean drinking water.
Safeguarding and conserving drinking water:
7A will help improve the efficiency of our water supplies and put water-smart conservation programs into action.
Maintaining healthy forests, rivers and creeks:
7A will help restore and sustain healthy creeks and wetlands, and will protect forests that are critical to water supplies.
Planning ahead for dry years:
7A will ensure funding to reduce the impacts of a greater demand and a changing climate by optimizing water management for communities, wildlife and everyone who plays on or enjoys or rivers and creeks – even during a dry year.
Growing food local:
7A will help ensure adequate water for local farms, help those farmers become more water efficient to save them water and money, and prevent metro area purchases of agricultural water.

Cost to homeowners is approximately $9.00 per $100,000 of assessed home value and for businesses, $36.24 per $100,000 of assessed value. The tax will automatically end or sunset after 10 years. These funds can only be used within the St. Vrain and Left Hand Water Conservancy District for the purposes stated in the ballot language, will be subject to an independent audit each year that is published on the District’s website, and will be overseen by a local board to ensure all funds are used solely to support clean water, healthy rivers, and a secure water future.
